Goodbye 2011

It’s hard to believe that 2011  has come to a close!  Bring on 2012 and all the wonderful blessings that await.

I thought it would be fun to do some of the top moments from our Eaglette 2011 (with this team).  Here are the top ten that first came to mind…

  1. Initiation Candle Ceremony – It’s one of my favorite things we do all year.  I love the tradition behind it, knowing how many Eaglettes have sat in our circle.  I love how it really makes the new team feel complete and for the first time, a team!  I love hearing new members talk and old members talk, especially the seniors.  Even though it is sad, it is so special to hear them come full circle.
  2. Camp – I remember leaving that last evening feeling like you girls could not have worked any harder.  You really pulled together, showed intensity, and worked together as a team.  We had 2 teams, but we still kept the feeling of 1!  It was a beautiful thing for me to get to watch.  Then seeing you perform and knowing that you had given it everything you got!  I was so proud of both the varsity and junior varsity!
  3. Master classes – We had so many incredible opportunities this summer!  It started at camp, followed by Derek, followed by our once a week technique, and concluded with the icing on the cake!!  We had my all time idol, Kristin Sudeikis, come in for an incredible workshop.  I love her and love everything she stands for.  The fact that you girls were able to experience her talent and her love was the best gift I could ever give you!  I hope you learned about dance and more importantly about life!  PRO LOVE ALL THE WAY!
  4. Night at the Royals – How fun was that?  I loved getting to have a fun evening with the Eaglette families!  It was a new tradition we started and it was a great time for everyone!  Frosty malt and my girls = awesomeness!
  5. Field Show Season – There were many highlights of this season.  The first memory that stands out is band camp!  I loved the spirit days, especially dress up like your coach day!  I didn’t realize I had such a style, but turns out I do!  There is no one I’d rather see imitating me than my girls who know me the best! J  We can laugh about it now, but we also had the rainstorm that got us all soaking wet!  (I definitely wasn’t laughing at the time!)  We had many great performances and you girls stretched yourself to the limit this year, settling the prairie and causing fires!  We were named Grand Champions for the 3rd time at St. Joe.  Seniors, that is something you should be very proud of!  I will never forget the feeling at the KU Marching Festival.  (I definitely will never forget the feeling of being locked out the gate just moments before we performed.  I was definitely panicking since I was really the only one who knew where to set all of the props!  Luckily, we got it figured all out and we had rock star help!)   We did something that has never been done before at Olathe North!  I had a feeling when they started calling Olathe North so many times that good things were in store.  Nothing can top hearing the roar when we were announced “Grand Champions”  Like Mr. Love always says, “It feels good to be good!”
  6. Everybody Cut FOOTLOOSE – I loved everything about this day!  I loved dressing up in 80s gear because the 80s rock!  I loved team bonding with Gardner Edgerton!  It is amazing to have a team that shares our values and that we respect so much!  We love our Blazerette friends!  We had trivia and giveaways!  How many times to you start a movie like that?   Normally you are just answering the questions out loud to no one!  We had our own private theater!  It didn’t just feel private, it was private!  The movie was awesome!  I didn’t know how they would pull it off being such a fan of the original!  They did a great job!  Lets not forget dancing in the aisle at the end!  Again, how often do you get to do that!  Such a fun experience…one that I will never forget!
  7. Lazer Tag – I always enjoy looking for new ways to surprise you!  I know that the Lazer Tag may not be new, but the story always changes!   Plus we didn’t do it last year so it was kinda new! Watching you process it all and ending in squeals while running to the locker room is quite rewarding to me!  It is always so great to get you girls away from practice and watch you have fun together!  Of course, pizza afterwards is a nice way to end our adventure on a full tummy!
  8. Special Olympics – This was the 2nd year we have done this and it seems to get better every time!   It really is so special!  I loved seeing the connections and friendships you made.  It was so awesome to see how they remembered you girls from last year!  It was fun to see you out of your dancing element!  Some of you have some real sport talent!  Some of us should probably stick to dancing!   As I watched you interact, I was so proud!  You girls are not just good dancers, you are incredible people!   You brought joy to everyone that was there, especially your coach!
  9. Mill Valley Competition – We did something that we have never done before.  Something if you would have told me even last year that we would have been doing, I would have laughed and said “Yeah, right!”  How would we ever be ready to compete in January?  Well, you girls were not just ready, you were on FIRE!  I am so proud of what you did that Saturday in January!  You worked hard to prepared!  You danced your hearts out on the floor!  To see the Junior Varsity in their blue sparkly dresses competing at Eaglettes for the first time brought so much joy to my heart!  To see the varsity in their beautiful headbands and bright blue lipstick take a routine to a whole nother level was incredible to witness.  To see individuals work so hard in preparation and then perform their additional routines so fabulously was absolutely amazing!  You all represented the Eaglettes in the best way possible!  It was a delightful day in every way possible!  I could not have been more proud of your behavior on and off the dance floor!
  10. Adopt a Family – This year was another first for the Eaglettes.  We adopted a family!  I wasn’t sure how it would go over!  Our Eaglette family went above and beyond…and then some!  As we were getting ready to send the gifts on, I was looking at the pile in amazement!  It brings a smile to my face to picture the family, opening all of their gifts on Christmas day!  THAT is the best gift!
  11. Our Nutcracker Field trip – Talk about the best day ever!  I got to spend the entire day with my favorite girls!  We got to miss school (which I know we were all super disappointed about), we got to see the beautiful new Kauffman Center, we got to dress up  (and boy, did you girls look beautiful!), we got to see the most graceful, incredible, and inspiring dancing, we got to eat some delicious pizza (along with some great service from KU basketball players), and spend the entire day with our team!  You girls were incredible, in every way possible!  I was so proud of your behavior all day long!  You were so grateful!  You did not take for granted a second of the day!  I wish we could do that every day!  (We can not, so don’t ask!)
  12. The 2 most incredible gifts – You girls and your families have shown me such incredible kindness this year.  At first, when my grandpa passed away.  That was one of the hardest things I have ever gone through.  You girls were there with kind words, hugs, and smiles to brighten my day.  To see the beautiful flower arrangements sent from my Eaglette family to my family was amazing!  It meant so much to me and my family.  My grandpa was very proud of the Eaglette, for very good reason!  The second was the incredible video you put together for my birthday present!  I know that Miss Claudel and Coach Alli had a big part in that!  I LOVE a good slideshow video!  There is just something about it that brings my heart joy.  I love making them and I love watching them!  For the first time, I had one made about me!  I know what goes into creating one.  When I make one, it is a way I show my love.  For you to make one for me showed me so much love!  I have watched it many times over the break and showed it off to many people!  That is something I will always treasure, just like I will always treasure every single one of YOU!

So those are the top moments that came to my mind. So I went a little over 10….not a bad problem to have!    I know that there are many many more!  Please feel free to add your top moment thoughts in a comment below!  Share stories of the great 2011!  They do not have to be just Eaglette moments!  Lets celebrate a wonderful year as a team and individually!  This is for families, alumni, everyone!  What will you remember about 2012…

Update 12.28

Hey girlies!  I hope you have a FABULOUS break!  I am missing you tons! : )  Hope you had a WONDERFUL Christmas and are feeling the joy of family, friends, and life!  I truly enjoyed our Christmas party.  It was so nice to spend a stressfree evening with you all.  You all looked so beautiful! :)  I hope you had fun!  Thank you for all of the incredible gifts and goodies.  Thank you for the amazing video you all put together!  I knew you were up to something, but I had no idea what it was!  That was the most special and incredible gift.  It means more than I can even begin to put into words.  I have watched it multiple times and love it even more every time I watch it.  You have all touched my heart!  Thank you so much!

Hopefully you have been stretching, working out, and practicing over the past week!  I know it is really easy to be caught up in break (which you should), but we have 17 days until competition…with 6 of those still being on break and 1 Sunday, so really we have 10 working days until competition.  When it comes to the end of the day on Saturday at our first competition, you do not want to look back and have regrets at what you could have done.

So you’re homework for the rest of the week and weekend…

  1. Stretch for at least 15 minutes every day.
  2. Work out for at least 15 minutes.  If you can find space, doing your routines full out would be a GREAT way to work out.
  3. Run ALL of our team routines 5 times each.
  4. Run ALL of your additional routines 3 times each.

If everyone does this we will be in a great place come Tuesday.  Do this for your teammates and for yourself!  Again, think about the end of the competition when you are sitting on the gym floor.  I can guarantee that you will be glad for putting in the work now!  I can guarantee you will regret it if you don’t!  Keep the big picture in mind!  Continue to have enjoy your break, but devote some time to Eaglettes each day!

Everyone was given a January calendar at our Christmas party.  I will see everryone next Tuesday.  The JV has practice from 10:00-1:00.  (You will be working with Ramsey on Hip Hop)  The Varsity has practice from 6:00-9:00.  (You will be working with me on pom)  All additional routines should be practicing throughout the day.  Officer practice is from 3:00-4:00.  (You will be working together)  Junior / Senior practice is from 4:00-5:00.  (You will be working with Lauren and Lindsey)  You then have an hour to get some light food (please don’t eat heavy) so we can have a solid practice.

Let me know if you have any questions!  Love you girls to the moon and back!  I miss you tons!  Enjoy the last few days of 2011!  Get ready for 2012…lets make it memorable!!  ONE LOVE!!

Hello everyone!  Hope your first day of finals was FANTASTIC!  Just think, you are half way done.  Your days are shorter tomorrow.  You are almost there!  Keep pushing!  The end is in sight!

The JV had a solid 2 practices today!  We finished learning hip hop (thank you, Ramsey) and worked on all 3 routines after school!  Thanks for working hard and having good attitudes, ladies!  You rock!  Can’t wait for everyone to see all of your hard work tomorrow!

The Varsity had the day off!  I hope you enjoyed sleeping in!  We had a stellar performance of jazz yesterday!  I feel like the routine is finally coming together!  It was an awesome first performance and I’m so proud of you for all the changes you made!  Now…hip hop!  Our goal is to finish cleaning hip hop tomorrow.  That means you need to review tonight and come ready to work your booty off!  Lets have an intense and focused practice!  We need to move quickly so lets cut back on questions and talking.  Remember, we start at 6:55.  It’s your last early morning of 2011! :)  We will have the long block in the morning to hopefully get it cleaned.  Then after school, we will hopefully be able to finish up and touch on everything!

For tomorrow afternoon, you need:

  • Wear your Black halter top with no bra showing.  Please also bring your black sports bra in case that does not work.
  • Wear Black Katrina jazz pants.
  • You need your black jazz shoes.
  • Please bring your black Eaglette long sweats.

  • Please wear darker than usual make up, but not performance make up.
  • Varsity, I would like to try to dance in our shoes in the afternoon so make sure you have socks.

Both groups should come in the outfit, ready to go.  Varsity will practice from 3:20-5:30.  JV should be there no later than 5:00.  We will start the show off PROMPTLY at 5:30.  I am hoping to be in a gym, but I am not sure at this time.  I will unlock the front south commons doors.  Have people come to the commons and we will direct them from there.  They can call my cell phone if they cannot find us.  Our performance order will be:

After that we will have a quick parent meeting in my classroom.  If you will be staying, you can study in Mrs. Gonzales room while we have our meeting!

Let me know if you have any questions!  Get excited for our last practices of 2011!  It’s been a great year!  Lets end on a high note and have the BEST.DAY.EVER!

Hey girls!  Hope you had a great weekend and are starting to study for finals!  I’m not sure when announcements are going to be posted.  I’m a little swamped with Final Snack Sacks, Adopt a Family, hip hop tennis shoes (yes I picked them up today!), getting ready for the basketball game, finals, etc!  So they will not be up until later and there is a chance I might not get them posted!  Here are a few basics…

For Monday:

  • Please both Varsity and JV come ready to work hard and be intense every minute!  We only have 2 practices to get ready for the basketball game and 2 practices after that to get ready for parent show off.  I need you to feel the pressure and be intent with every minute of practice!  I have not had a chance to upload the videos.  I am so sorry.  I will try to get them done, but again it might not happen tonight!  Please practice what we did last week!  We do not have time to move backwards!  Please go over everything because we are going to be making more changes this week!  Bring fire and energy this last week of school.  Bring positive attitudes with a WILL DO mindset!
  • You can still bring in stuff for adopt a family.  Bring it in tomorrow wrapped and ready to go!  We could still use stuff for the 16 year old if you would like donate!
  • Remember, after school instead of technique we are having a study session.  You need to be with me studying or with a teacher studying.  If you are going to be with a teacher, I need to know.  Bring whatever you need to work on to my classroom after school.  You can bring snacks.  This is not a free for all hang out session.  You need to be studying.  You can work together, but you must be studying!
  • Officers, plan to meet at 6:50 tomorrow morning.  Please don’t be late because 5 minutes really isn’t enough time!
  • I could really use some extra help tomorrow.  If you have any time and would like to earn extra credit / make up points / or simply help, let me know!
  • This week we have JV and V Basketball performances / games on Tuesday, JV practice after school on Wednesday, Varsity practice after school on Thursday, Parent Show Off on Thursday, and Parent Meeting on Thursday.
  • Thank you to everyone for a great job with the Little Eaglettes!  Very proud of you girls!

I’ve got to go do more errands, but hopefully will have more details posted later.  Please practice and come prepared tomorrow!  Love you girls!  Lets have a great week!
