do you have to do fortes for tryouts?

For tryouts, you will be taught a turn combination. The combination typically ends with fouettes. If you cannot do fouettes, do not worry. You would be able to do a pirouette instead. We are strong believers in solid technique. We would rather see a strong double pirouette over a sloppy triple pirouette. We believe in quality vs. quantity. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask. We are in the process of putting together our tryout packet and will upload it as soon as it is finished! Thanks so much!

If we can’t do the splits, will we not make the team?

      February 7, 2010 at 4:48 pm

Both right and left legs splits are required for tryouts. There are multiple things that are looked at for tryouts. Not being able to do the splits does not mean that you will not make the team. You may be weak in your flexibility (splits) but strong in other areas. Just do the best you can and that is all we ask. We do have a little over a month until tryouts. I would suggest stretching every morning and every night between now and tryouts. Doing so will help to increase your flexibility which will help to improve your tryout score. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to ask. Thanks so much. Good luck.

I thought of 1 more guestion…..when the judges are chosing who makes the team, since all of the teams will be combined as one, will they have a certain amount of 9th graders that make the team, a certain amount of 10th,11th and 12th. Because wouldnt we be dancing aganist the 12th graders? Sorry I was kinda confused on that. Thanks, Taylor :)

There is not a specific number of any grade level. We will go with the natural break in numbers. Once we find the natural break, the ones that are above the break / score, that will be the 2010-2011 team. Does that make sense? If not, please let me know! :)

Will you need to be able to do double right and left pirouettes ?

      February 11, 2010 at 10:25 pm

We focus mainly on right doubles and triples, but the team will always work on both sides throughout the year. :) We are definitely a right dominant team! :)

what types of leaps will most likely be used ?

    • 12 Sara Heptig
      February 11, 2010 at 10:28 pm

There will be leaps in the routine and there will be a separate leap combination. Some things that might be used…
      -Grand jete (regular split leap)
      -Center leap
      -Turning center leap
      -Turning attitude leap
      -Reverse leap
      -Tilt leaps
-Directional leap (in bewteen a regular leap and reverse leap)
Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! :)

Hello there! IOur preference is for your parents / guardians to be there. If your parents / guardians cannot attend, it would be just fine if your sister came in their place! Thanks for checking! Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! :)

In order to tryout do you have to already be on a drill team in middle school?

No, you do not have to already be on a dance team to try out for the Eaglettes. Let me know if you have any more questions!

    I have a few questions..
    1) If we don’t make it on the team in our freshman year, can we still tryout in 10th grade?
    2) About how much does it cost to be on Eaglettes?
    3) How often do you have practices over the summer and will there be a consequence if we miss because of vacation?
    4) Do you have practices EVERY morning? Or just a couple times a week? What time do they usually start in the morning?

Hello there. Let me see if I can help…

      1) If we don’t make it on the team in our freshman year, can we still tryout in 10th grade?

Most definitely! You can tryout any year (except your senior year :)

      2) About how much does it cost to be on Eaglettes?

It is expensive to be on Eaglettes. It can range up to $800. It is the most expensive your first year, when you have everything to purchase. We do a lot of fundraisers so you do have the opportunity to raise that money.

We also do a Nationals trip to Orlando, Florida. This trip is not required, but does cost an addition $800-$1000. Again it is not required.

      3) How often do you have practices over the summer and will there be a consequence if we miss because of vacation?

We have practice every day the first 2 weeks after school is out followed by camp in Emporia. Aftere that, we have weekly technique sessions. People do have to miss technique because of vacations. We have optional technique sessions that they can use to make up or by taking a technique class at a dance studio. The last week of July / first week of August we have required competition practices and band camp. Once we have our tryouts we have a meeting with all new members and parents. At that time, if there are any conflicts, you would let me know. I will have some dates to give out at our tryout meeting on March 10th.

      4) Do you have practices EVERY morning? Or just a couple times a week? What time do they usually start in the morning?

We do have practice every morning except Thursday. We start at 7:00 am 4 days a week. On the days that we have block schedule (which is most THursdays) we have afternoon practice from 3:30-5:30. During our busy time we have more after school / evening practices. It is early but it’s a great way to start the day! :)

Hope that helps! Please let me know if you need anything else or have any more questions! I would be glad to help in any way I can! :)

I have a few questions Ms. Heptig,

    1. Can you (and do you have to) try out every year in high school?

    2. What kind of advanced moves are required in the tryouts? (e.g. double-pirouettes, fuetes, etc.)

    3. Does high school Drill team take up an elective hour?

    4. Do you have to be able to do full left and right splits to make the team?

    5. For the workshop on Sat. the 19th, would I want to choose beginner/intermediate or intermediate/advanced if I have already had experience as a member of a middle school drill team snd plan to try out for high school?

If you can answer these questions soon, I’d be very grateful! :)

Hello there! Let me see if I can help…

      1. Can you (and do you have to) try out every year in high school?

Everyone tries out every year. It doesn’t matter if you have or haven’t been on the team. Everyone is equal.

      2. What kind of advanced moves are required in the tryouts? (e.g. double-pirouettes, fuetes, etc.)

It varies. Some things to expect:
      -Chaines
      -Pirouettes
      -Fouettes
-Leaps (Regular, center, reverse, turn leap)
      -Battements and Tilts

      3. Does high school Drill team take up an elective hour?

It does. Drill team is a PE credit. It is first hour!

      4. Do you have to be able to do full left and right splits to make the team?

Part of the tryouts is doing your right and left leg split. They are a portion of the score. That portion does not determine if you do or do not make the team, it is just a portion of the overall score.

      5. For the workshop on Sat. the 19th, would I want to choose beginner/intermediate or intermediate/advanced if I have already had experience as a member of a middle school drill team snd plan to try out for high school?

That is completely up to you. The int/adv would give you an idea of what to expect at tryouts. You can start out in one and if you feel you are in the wrong place, you could switch.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! :)

If I turn in my packet how will I get the password to see the routine? And will we be learning 1 routine online? Or both?

    • 25 Sara Heptig
      February 22, 2011 at 11:12 pm

Hi Ashley. Once you have turned in your packet, the password will be e-mailed to you. If you do not have access to e-mail, be sure to indicate on your tryout packet. There is just 1 routine to learn online. The other routine will be taught at the clinics. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions! Thanks so much!

Hi Morgan! You actually do not try out specifically for Varsity or Junior Varsity, so everyone will learn the same routines. Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! Have a great day! :)
